Picked up a 2002 MkIV Golf SE 2.0 about 2 days ago as a replacement for my Commodore. The difference between the two is night and day. I've already fallen in love with my little German beast. I thought coming from a 3.6 V6 auto to a 2.0 manual it would be sluggish and boring. But my god was I wrong.
Its manual and I've only ever driven automatic before.
My first drive was after a 15 minute lesson from a mate (better driver than teacher) on how to hill start/downshift/match revs and all that. I headed down to Mosman to pick up a mate and only ended up stalling around 6 times, 4 of which were at a set of lights 1km away from my house.
Details:
99,000km
Manual
Silver
Leather interior
Stock as a rock
Close future plans are:
- Coilovers: going cheap until I can pay for better - I understand that you get what you pay for so I'm not expecting anything from these.
- Rims: I cannot keep running on the same 15"s, they look to small for the car and are just plain ugly. Going for 17"s or 18"s but cannot find reasonably priced/ones I like.
- Interior: all the plastic trim in the car is scratched and worn and covered in some weird sticky film of something. So, to get around this I'm vinyl wrapping all the trim with 3M Carbon Fibre wrap. I'll also do a bit of it on certain parts outside the car as well.
I'm also restoring (not to stock) a 1981 BMW E21 323i which is around 75% complete and should be road worthy in the next few months.
Only things to do before getting a blue slip for it is rust removal in floorpans on both sides and put the interior back in
Can't wait to meet some of you + cars at events
I'll start a little build thread soon. Itll be slow to start but once I get going it will all be done relatively quickly
Cheers,
Max
