Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW New Škoda owner

    Hi people.
Found this forum (Google is my friend) as a result of researching daytime running lights, and already spent a couple of hours reading all kinds of interesting stuff.

We got our Skoda Octavia TDI103 liftback (MY12) back in May 2012. We looked at a Jetta but concluded the Octavia had more bang per buck.
We love it - it replaces a 2002 Corolla wagon which is still in the family, my son now has it. Our other car is a 2004 Ford Territory AWD which we used to regard as our "main" vehicle, but that has now changed - the Territory is now "the truck" and used almost exclusively for hauling band equipment to gigs - its fuel consumption is roughly 250% more than the Skoda.
I wanted a diesel as a result of a couple of trips we've done in Europe back in 2005 and 2007. On both trips we drove around in smallish diesels and liked them a lot. One was a Renault Laguna in Italy, and the other was a Volvo in Ireland.
Assuming we regard the Skoda as a VW variant, then this isn't our first VW - that was back in 1979 when we we were "travelling in a fried out Kombi" for a few months in Europe, but perhaps that doesn't count because it wasn't water cooled.
