Hi all,
Yesterday I plonked down a deposit on a Polo GTI and today I've joined the forum. I've been visiting this site on and off for quite a while, basically since I became interested in the Polo when it was first released, but now that I've committed to buy I thought it was a good time to join the conversation. I should say thanks to all of you for the great source of info this site provides and I've found myself returning here on many occasions to get some real world feedback on the 6R Polo - so thanks!
Why the GTI? Well, the first car I owned was a '69 Morris Cooper S MkII and I've had a thing for quick small cars ever since. The time had come to offload our second car and find something small, efficient and safe for the daily commute while providing some fun for the weekends for around 30K. First thoughts were around a used Mk5 Golf GTI, but when I ran the numbers (yep, I'm an Analyst/Planner Mon-Fri) the Polo GTI was unbeatable value. I'm preaching to the converted here so you all know the Pros and the only major point in the Con column was the long lead time on delivery. Having come to terms with having to wait the only logical step was a test drive to see if it lived up to my (very high) expectations. I won't bore you with the details but in short, it did! So after the obligatory back and forth with the dealer trying to squeeze as much as I could out of them, a deposit was paid and now I wait for an estimated mid-Feb delivery.
I've enjoyed reading member's stories of tracking their cars progress from factory to boat and finally to delivery day as well as useful info about potential problems so hopefully I can return the favour.
Cheers,
Andy
