Hi, my VW watercooled knowledge started with 1980 Golf 1.6L engines, 4 & 5 speed transaxles and front suspension and various mods and hot-ups with these. For some time now I have used a 2L 9A 16V engine and am now mating this with a Eurospec 6 speed CR transaxle.

This sounds oddly specific I know - but I have these parts in a bitsa car from 1980.
