NSW Updating to Golf R

Currently have a MkV GTI, owned since new. Looking to update to MY12 R. Is it worth going to the R when most driving is around town and the GTI is just so good?

I should have said I found this forum easily years ago and have read many of the posts.
Certainly a lot of knowledge out there.
