Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VIC New MY12 Passat owner here

I am the proud owner of a new Passat 125TDI DSG Bluemotion wagon in Icelandic Grey. Still running in, I've used 60 litres of Diesel in 782Km (7.7 L/100 Km) of mainly highway (100 Km/h) driving. Should improve on this as the engine loosens up. Very happy with the car and the dealer from whom I purchased (Barloworld Bayside in Moorabbin).
As others have mentioned, I am not a huge fan of the Start/Stop system in the usual cut & thrust of suburban driving, and wish VW would provide a MFD option to choose whether to have this On or Off by default.
I also found an annoying rattle coming from the rear of the load space, which I eventually tracked down to the latch holding the emergency triangle in the tailgate door. The triangle sits inside a rectangular plastic tube, which in turn sits in a hinged flap secured by a plastic latch in the tailgate. The latch had an annoying rattle over anything less than very smooth tarmac. I solved this by putting some packing material wrapped around the plastic tube, which forces the latch against its lock and holds it tight. Viola! Problem solved..
