G'day. I am Jeff from Port Macquarie.
I have been into VWs since my dad bought his first car, a '57 beetle, on the day I was born - the rego used to come up on my birthday as a kid.
My dad had a series of 60s bugs after that, until I bought my first bug, a '59 model. I learnt to drive in it, then only drove it licenced for about 12 months untill a 'mate' of mine pranged it for me.
I then had a white '69 with flames painted on it for a few years, untill I was running in a new motor, and went off the road after going to sleep.
I got a gold coloured '69 then, and after a few years, I dropped a valve, so I decided to do a body off pan re-build while it was off the road. My girlfriend helped my strip it down, then when I wanted to spend money on it, I wasn't allowed, so I had to wait. Well, then we got engaged, then we got married, then we had kids, then we had grandkids,..... but I reckon if I outlive her, I will be allowed to finish it.
My girlfriend (now wife) had a Hillman Arrow at the time, then she got a Mazda 1800, then a Holden Sunbird, before finally relenting and getting a 75 L bug. She (and I) drove it for a number of years, before she wanted her own car, so I then 'inherited' the L bug, which I still have (only has 605,000km on it) and drive daily.
My wife got a 94 VR6 Auto Golf, which she had for 4 or 5 years, before she sold it and bought an 05 V5 tiptronic Bora (it had been a demonstrator) which she still has.
I do spend quite a bit of time on AussieVeeDubbers, but felt I really needed to join here to help my wife with bits and pieces on her car. I love my air cooled bug, but I certainly know why 2nd generation VWs are so popular - they are just so good, especially after driving many other types of cars, mainly at work, over the years. Other breeds just don't compare.
