Hello!
We bought a barely used black 2009 Tiguan TDI with AWD in the Dominican Republic about a year ago. Still only has 23,000km on it now.
However, we still don't know the what all the features are on this specific model and would love to find out! (anyone know how?) We were told it was a top of the line model and now we know it's not, but we did not know anything about VW's at the time; just needed a car.
We didn't even know what "TDI" meant until we bought the car. Did I mention that I am a natural blonde??
Anyway, turns out we love the car and the turbo diesel is fantastic.
Only big issue is that the seat cover surface material is literally crumbling off the fabric....we were told they were leather seats and they appeared to be when we bought it. We now believe they must be the "Metropolis" Black cloth; looks like leather, but is probably vinyl. Anyone know of this problem with these seats?
Dealership which sold the car is unresponsive; long story but typical of the DR. Anyone here have any suggestions for getting the seats replaced under manufacture's warranty (ours runs out October 2011) by somehow getting VW involved directly? We have written to VW in the Europe, they just referred us back to the DR. We travel to USA often and could pick up there.....or whatever we could do to at least get it documented now before warranty runs out. DR VW dealer won't even put it in writing, just puts us off. And it's really bad....1/3 of the drivers seat is now bare, but it's all the seats and not wear related....cracking all over car.
On the positive side, we get great mileage and pick-up; love it in the mountains here (from Colorado, USA so I know what I am talking about) and just the right size for us now that the kids are gone. Our car in the States is an Ford Expedition EL, so it seemed pretty small at first. Amazing what the Tig will actually haul though...
And we need an English owners manual rather than the Spanish one that came with the car. I tried to order one here; not happening! and then tried with a USA dealer, but since the TDI is not sold in USA, dealerships there cannot even order one for us. Anyone here who could help me get one please? We are more than happy to pay for it. Just are learning through this site what we have on the car, but don't know how to use it all!
