Just purchased a 2005 T5 Transporter Dual Cab Chas 2.5l Diesel 128kw 6 speed. A real tradie beast at 2ton(trust me I weighed it), unladen but for tool boxes and ladder racks. I am the average punter when it comes to engines and such and that probable why I am learning my lessons with the Transporter. I had it inspected before purchase but did not heed one little warning.
To meet RWC I have replaced LED tail light in tray, 2 tyres, Windscreen & retinted 4 windows due to scratches. Now I am looking at high coolant usage each day. I have Burwin in Ferntreegully testing the motor next week. I can only hope that the issue is inexpensive and minor.
I like the site layout, I assume that the Eastlink had an open day for VWW. This is the place to be for VW.
Thanks for having me.

5 July 2011 - To keep some history going for the vehicle I thought I would edit my original Post.
Water pump replaced so the coolant usage should be sorted. At the sametime the airconditioner one way clutch and coupling was replaced as it was seizing.
I was also warned to watch the power steering pump for increased level of oil and I was advised that it is a pain to repair/replace. Engine oil in the brake fluid?
If you are interested in the costs (knowledge is power)
Waterpump $270, Coolant $23, Labour $300 - this included a system pressure test and flushed oil system.
I wonder what they actually do for an engine oil flush?
Airconditioner Clutch $275, Coupling $180, Labour $120 - the coupling price is really raw, if I had a picture of it you would agree.
Minor Service Oil $126, Oil filter $21, Miscellanous (my words) $30, Labour $192 - this had to be done as there was water in the oil.
The oil is listed as VW504/507 engine oil I beleive this is a castrol product.
Not to bad considering I had a guesstimate of $1000 dollars just for the Waterpump from private mechanic.
If anybody can advise of better deal and service in the East Suburbs or Northern Suburbs of Melbourne let me know.
Now I am attempting to install a reversing camera. I would like to install it with a fuse wedge as an accessory on the fuse box but getting fat fingers in there is not easy. Nor is it easy to strip the dash to improve access.
Wouldn't a workshop manual be a good idea.
