Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    gday all
I have a 1999 Transporter 2.5 turbo diesel which i ran very low in fuel the other night and I'm suspecting that the car being difficult to start a few days later and then not starting at all that night might be connected to my dumb actions. maybe not. I'll take the fifth on that.
I'm a bit of a gymp with this diesel thing and half a dill with petrol though manage to keep up with a '69 bug i've had for years. Was wondering if anyone could suggest an easy or basic thing to try to get the transporter started. I live in an isolated town and have had one very bad experience in taking the van to a non VW experienced mechanic, so to be able to start it would be a great benefit as the nearest good independent or vw dealer is 250 k's away.
some sort of prime or check or filter replacement? Cursing and praying didn't seem to help and kicking the tyres might've worked but i had thongs on! It seems like a fairly knowledgeable forum, though i know things can be more complicated than they seem. anyway thanks in advance if anything is forthcoming
