G'Day folks. We're a VW family here so I thought I'd better get involved.
Anyway, the Mrs has a 2005 Golf 2.0 FSI, auto. 60,000km on the clock, owned since new, serviced at the local VW dealer. The last couple of months the thing has started to develop a very noticeable knocking noise at idle. It sounds a bit like a diesel and the noise appears to be coming from the back (gearbox end) of the engine.
Anyone had this before or know what it could be?
The other car is an 08 Golf GTI. It's a peach but is about to come out of factory warranty. Can anyone recommend a decent mechanic in Melbourne's north/west? I'm not too thrilled with Essendon Volkswagen.
