Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • B6 passat trailer wiring loom install issues

First post so please be tolerant of any breaches of etiquette.

I have read up on the various forums on the install of the tow bar and wiring loom for a B6 wagon build date 10/09.

The car when delivered didnt have a tow bar packaged fitted so I thought I'd do it myself whilst I have a break.

I purchased genuine Aust. bar and RHD wiring loom packages from VW.

    $367 and $435 b4 gst respectively.

The instructions for the wiring loom said that the power side of the loom should go down the left side of the car to the fusebox from the LHS rear wheel arch where the controller is mounted, with the control loom crossing the car under the rear seats to the vehicle control module on the RHS under the dash.

After pulling the interior apart to get the two halves of the loom down boths sides of the car sill's I find that the fuse box is on the RHS of the car.

Re routing the power side of the loom across the car to the drivers side leaves the power section of the loom 800 -900 mm short of where it needs to be.

I have had the install checked by the predelivery team at Peninsula VW and they say that the install is done correctly. The parts salesmen have sent a second kit out to check that it was not a problem with a miss packed loom. The second kit has the same instructions and the power section of the loom is still to short.

Volkswagen tech assist have assured me that the kit is the correct part and no other dealers have reported problems with the installation of the system. ie resort to default position - the dealer, the client and anybody who has seen the problem is an idiot and they know better.

My question is has any body else experienced this problem and if so how was it resolved? The easy fix is to extend the wiring in the power loom, but I need VW to do this so that I maintain warranty on the vehicle.
