Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hi

    Hi,

I have just signed up in the hope that I will be able to get the information I am after in regards to a new (used) car purchase.

For the last year or so I have been driving a 2006 golf GTI, which has been a fun car.

However, after a couple of recent mishaps (I scratched the front wheel, which in turn made my husband cry) and it seems someone keyed it while I was at work (i'm a school teacher who parks in a outdoors carpark during the day) my husband and I have started considering that perhaps a second, cheaper run about would be a better day to day car.

As I do a lot of city driving, and the car will be just for me I am looking at a 3 door polo as my first choice. One in particular i am considering is a MY2003 Polo SE 3 door which looks to be a good car. Seeing I set a budget of under $10,000 it seems to be one of the better options. Plus it is white with a sunroof which makes it look cool

Also, although I know im going to loose a lot of respect I am after an Automatic. I spend a lot of time each day in heavy traffic and although i am capable of driving a manual I just prefer the ease of use of an auto.

My main questions about the car are about how easy it is to get alloy wheels for them (2003 9N model polo) and also information about the breaking / handling / power. I guess this is the wrong place to ask though so I will wait to see if i can read anything in the Polo forums before bothering you all.
