Hi everyone,
i have just joined up here at VWWatercooled, reading some initial posts this seems like a great forum!
I have just put my order in for a Black Golf R 5DR DSG (Options: 19" Black wheels, leather and MDI) for $57K drive away. Now the long count down begins, Jan 11 is the ETA, don't know how i will survive the 5 or so months.
Am currently in the process of selling a 2005 Golf TDI Sportsline and also have a 2008 Mercedes ML320 as the family transporter.
After driving the ML for a couple of years, I didn't realise how much i missed the speed and agility of a "sports" car until i test drove the R. I had a Monaro a few years back, not so agile, but lots of speed.
After test driving the R i immediately fell in love and just had to order it then and there. I know that there are those that think that the GTI is a better alternative given the price difference. But as others have noted, once you factor in the few options of a GTI that you get standard in the R, the difference isn't that great for the benefit of 4WD (will be carting around wife and baby sometimes) and performance gains.
Look forward to contributing to the banter in future
