Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • QLD ‘ON’ indicator for the heated rear view mirrors?

    Guten Tag, Goeie Dag, G'Day.

SWMBO got a 103TDI for a Co car.
    Enjoys the DSG and torque.
The VW Golf really is a class less car, you can park it next to a Bentley. Try that with an i30.

Is there an ‘ON’ indicator (light on dash etc.) for the heated rear view mirrors except for the switch itself?
Can you leave them on for extended periods of time (say the winter months) without damage?
or do they switch off after a certain time (auto)?

    Hey,

Not light or buzz to let you know there one, not sure how they work, think its one of those read the manual moments, I had it on when needed, however, When reverse parking, I wanted the left mirror down to avoid gutter scrapes, alas most of the time it was off

    Cheers

not sure in the newer cars (haven't tried in our Tig yet) but our 08 jetta and earlier cars dont have anything that tells you that the heaters are set to come on. My understanding is that the outside temp has to be below about 5deg(someone correct this if its wrong) before they will come on and then they only come on long enough to demist the mirror - same as your rear window demister.
Therefore it shouldn't harm them to leave the switch in the on position.
