Ive just purchased a 98 Transporter T4. Reverse gear does not work. Ive bene told that its most likely the reverse idler and these go all the time in Transporters. Jacksons gave me a quote of $1200 if it is the reverse idler or up to $2700 for a reco gearbox. Just wondering if anyone has any info on this at all. Ive talked to a local mechanic who work on VW and he doesnt want to touch it as its too big of a job for him on his own.... So Jacksons may be the only way to go but im worried they are going to rip me off with this and try to go for the full reconditioned gear box line. I have no idea at the moment if it will all need replacing, but any who has any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated!
