Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Help with replacing 2014 Tiguan Sunroof Shade

Hi all, I just bought my wife a 2014 Tiguan and the Sunroof Shade is broken so I was wanting to replace it.

I have been watching these two videos on how to do it:
Panoramic Sunroof and Sunshade Replacement VW, Audi, Seat & Skoda - YouTube
2007 to 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan Panoramic sun shade replacement without dropping headliner - YouTube

Does anyone have experience doing this and have a link for a replacement sunshade that works.
Any tips would be extremely helpful.

I'm also looking for some trim clips for the trim around it as I noticed that a couple were broken when I pulled it down to inspect and I might break some when I do the job. Any advice on these and where to get them?

Finally while I'm at it I would like to get the headlining replaced and I found a local upholstery mechanic who inspected it and said he would replace it for $120 if I came in with the sunroof already removed for him.
So my plan is to do this and prepare to replace the shade but to drop it off to him before putting it on and have him replace the lining.
Is this a good idea or am I potentially setting myself up for failure.
Any advice would be super appreciated.
Also any recommendations on upholstery mechanics to do the lining would be also appreciated.
