Hi all - hope you’re well.
I’m emigrating to Melbourne from the UK at the end of December this year, and really want to bring my Mk1 with me.
I have quite a few questions relating to importing it that I’m hoping one or two of you may be able to help with - the process is making my head spin if I’m honest! - but I’ll ask those in the appropriate forum section. For example I already have asbestos free certification sorted.
Anyway, here’s some pix of my car. It’s a 1457cc GL, completely standard with 115,000 miles on the clock, and is my pride and joy. I’ve owned it for 13 years now.

It’s even been in a couple of YouTube videos:
The MK1 GOLF SAVED from the CRUSHER! - YouTube
The Telegraph's Best Cars Ever | 2 - Volkswagen Golf - YouTube
I’m desperate to bring the car with me, but each time I think I’m getting somewhere there’s a new hurdle... am keeping my fingers crossed that some of you may be able to assist!
Many thanks!
Alex
