Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Hello!

    Hi,

I'm new to the forums, but have been a fan of VW's for a long while.

Over the years, I've attempted the odd project, including a '69 Beetle for my G/F that never went anyway (nor did the relationship in the end), and since 2011, have been daily driving a 2005 VW Golf TDi Comfortline 1K.

I've decided to take the plunge into a project car, which will have an odd path to completion. I've just picked up a 2011 VW Caddy 2KN 1.6L TDI with a blown 7 speed DSG. The eventual plan is to convert it to electric, using Nissan Leaf parts. In the meanwhile, I want to get it up and running, so need to fix/replace the DSG.

I have the opportunity to grab a 2010 Polo 1.6 TDi with a 7 speed DSG that's a stat write off at an extremely good price, so I hope the parts will be enough to get the Caddy going, and will allow be to add a better steering wheel and front seats (the rest will be available if anyone needs parts for a 2010-2015 Polo).

Anyway, I look forward to learning a bit more on how to splice these two together. I do have a VCDS cable (I planned on putting a RCD510 into my Golf), but haven't really played with it.

    Jamie
