Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Geneva 2011: 2.0L TSI debuts in T5 Range

Powerful and fuel-efficient: New 2.0 turbo petrol engine for T models

Frugal and powerful 204 PS TSI is added to model line-up
Bi-xenons with LED daytime running lights for all T models

Hanover / Geneva, March 2011. A fuel-efficient and yet powerful petrol engine is being added to the T programme this summer (enclosed superstructures only to complete the international line-ups of all versions of the T-model. The 2.0 TSI combines innovative technologies such as turbocharging with direct fuel injection, four-valve technology and intercooling to create a product unique in its market segment. This veritable power pack unites maximum power, smooth running and minimal fuel consumption.

To complete the model range, a powerful direct-injection petrol engine is being added to the T-series engine line-up this summer. The innovative 2-litre turbo engine with intercooling produces 150 kW / 204 PS and a maximum torque of 350 Newton metres from just 1,500 rpm. Driving performance is sporty: 0-100 km/h in just 9.5 seconds and a top speed of 200 km/h (manual gearbox). Fuel consumption, however, remains low at only 9.8 litres per 100 kilometres: compared to the VR six cylinder engine used in the previous model, which was only available with a conventional torque converter automatic, petrol consumption has been reduced by 23 percent, while torque was increased by 11 percent.

Specifically, the 2.0 TSI utilises the advantages of homogenous direct fuel injection and combines this with the powerful benefits of turbocharging. This produces a dynamic result: outstanding torque level, excellent responsiveness, pure driving pleasure and not even the slightest hint of any turbo lag. The 2-litre turbocharged engine has been specially tuned for use in the T-range. The 2.0 TSI is available in the T5 with front-wheel drive, six-speed manual transmission or 7-speed DSG and – for the first time with a petrol engine – as a 4MOTION four-wheel drive version combined with DSG.

At the Geneva International Motor Show, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will be showing the new engine versions in the Multivan Edition 25, which offers many new optional features, including the bi-xenon headlamps with innovative LED daytime running lights that are also available from this spring for all Multivan, California and Caravelle models and closed versions of the Transporter.

This special Edition 25 model is based on the current Multivan Comfortline, but offers even more finesse. It is available, for instance, only in Candy White, Salsa Red or Metallic Silver so that the exclusive design touches are shown off to best effect. The special model can be recognised above all by its matt black roof and black 18-inch alloy wheels. Further features include: black handles on driver and front passenger doors; a black B-pillar; black decal trim on the back of the vehicle and the side sills; and matt black paintwork on the bottom part of the front bumper.

Height-adjustable ergonomic seats for driver and front passenger and the individually adjustable, sliding rows of seats in the back let passengers enjoy the high level of comfort that they are accustomed to in a Multivan. The multifunction steering wheel is adjustable both in height and tilt angle. The ‘RCD 310’ radio fitted as standard in the special model has a total of eight loudspeakers, plays MP3 files and includes a digital radio (DAB) receiver.

The ‘Side Assist’ lane-changing system identifies any vehicles in the area critical to lane changing. LED lights in the wing mirrors provide signals to alert the driver. This system, complete with cruise control, is standard on the ‘Edition25’ range. The model’s feature set also includes an automatically dimming rear-view mirror: the mirror is automatically dimmed as soon as the headlights of any following vehicle start to create too much glare.

An optional sports chassis and reinforced anti-roll bars make the special model even more agile on the road. The ‘Edition25’ Multivan also features many extras in the area of comfort and safety: these include fog lights – including cornering light function – as standard, daytime running lights, a tyre pressure indicator and a rain sensor to automatically switch on the windscreen wipers.
