16.5 percent increase in vehicle deliveries

Wolfsburg, 09 February 2011 - The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand began the year with a marked rise in deliveries, handing over 418,800 (January 2010: 359,400) vehicles to customers worldwide in January, an increase of 16.5 percent on the comparable prior-year period. “Our young and environmentally-friendly model range is exactly what customers all over the world are looking for,” Christian Klingler, Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, commented in Wolfsburg on Tuesday.

The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand performed particularly well in regions with growing automobile markets. 62,400 (53,800; +16.1 percent) vehicles were delivered in the South America region in January. In the Asia/Pacific region, the brand reported a 31.5 percent increase to 187,700 (142,700) units. In this region, developments in China (including Hong Kong), where the number of vehicles delivered grew to 175,000 (135,200; +29.4 percent), were especially gratifying. In India, Volkswagen Passenger Cars reported a tenfold rise in deliveries to 4,000 units.

The brand also reported an increase in Central and Eastern Europe: 10,100 (7,600; +32.3 percent) vehicles were handed over to customers there in January. In Russia, Volkswagen Passenger Cars delivered 4,300 (2,200; +91.5 percent) vehicles to customers, almost double the number handed over in January 2010. The situation in Europe remained largely stable with the brand delivering 124,600 (126,100; -1.2 percent) vehicles to customers. In the North America region, Volkswagen Passenger Cars grew deliveries to 30,400 (29,200; +4.2 percent) units.
